The Moroccan Parliament Will Reconsider Its Relations With The European Parliament

On Monday, a joint plenary session of the two Moroccan chambers of parliament was held to discuss the most recent European Parliament resolution regarding the treatment of journalists in Morocco. The Moroccan Parliament, which consists of two chambers, denounced "the malicious campaign" that has been waged against the country and whose "latest development was the vote on a resolution on 19" in a statement released at the conclusion of this session.

The organization stated that it had taken note of the resolution "with great astonishment and indignation, which has completed the levels of trust between the Moroccan and European legislative institutions, and affected the positive accumulations whose realization took several decades.". This is how the hemicycle expresses its condemnation of "hostile attempts aimed at harming the interests and the image of Morocco, as well as the distinguished and long-standing relations between Morocco and the European Union, which are based on common values, principles, and interests.".

Additionally, he considers the most recent resolution to be "an unacceptable encroachment on Morocco's sovereignty and the sanctity and independence of its judicial institutions, as well as an unacceptable transgression of his jurisdiction and powers. "The Parliament of Morocco "reconsiders" its relations with the European Parliament, according to the Moroccan hemicycle. Regarding the resolution's content, it states that the Moroccan government "rejects the exploitation and the politicization of cases that are at the core of the criminal justice system and fall under public law, in respect of which court decisions have been made on counts that have nothing to do with any journalistic activity or the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression.

He regrets that "the decision of the European Parliament undermined the foundations of trust and cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the European Parliament, at a time when we were all looking forward to promising new horizons in the relations between the two institutions for more efficiency and coordination in the common interest of our peoples.". The same source urged "European political forces to demonstrate wisdom and sobriety and to reject the deliberate conflation between the human rights protected in Morocco by the Constitution, laws, and institutions on the one hand, and the not very credible allegations promoted by certain parties and organizations known for their hostile positions against Morocco, on the other.".

The legislative body has determined to "reconsider its relationship with the European Parliament and subject it to a comprehensive reassessment in order to take appropriate and firm decisions," according to a joint statement from both Houses of Parliament. Additionally, I'd like to declare that the European Parliament's presidency will receive the minutes of this meeting, along with the positions and remarks made by the leaders and representatives of the groups, groupings, and non-affiliated lawmakers.

Remember that the European Parliament recently passed a resolution on "the situation of journalists in Morocco" that was strongly condemned by the National Press Council and the Superior Council of the Judiciary. This resolution was recently adopted on Thursday. Unacceptable text that was also denounced by the Arab Parliament.

He regrets that "the decision of the European Parliament undermined the foundations of trust and cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the European Parliament, at a time when we were all looking forward to promising new horizons in the relations between the two institutions for more efficiency and coordination in the common interest of our peoples.
